Cash for Carpenters? Obama Proposes Home Improvement Rebates
US President Barack Obama called on Congress to pass his administration’s “Homestar” proposal, an initiative that would offer homeowners up to $3,000 in rebates to pay for energy-saving home improvements.
Although Republican lawmakers are skeptical about the proposal’s potential impact, Obama says the program would lead to lower energy bills, jobs and a reduction of America’s dependence on foreign energy. If passed, the Homestar program is expected to cost $6 billion and could lead to the renovation of 3 million homes.
